A LITTLE CLARITY

Good questions.
Thoughtful answers.

Start here, then ask us about your own locs.

Where are appointments held?

Appointments are normally in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Confirm the location and arrival details directly before travelling. The city guides describe communities we welcome inquiries from; they are not additional studios.

Can you come to my home city?

If you have no travel options, ask whether a home visit can be arranged. Availability and service suitability are confirmed directly. A travel surcharge is added to the service price, with the final amount agreed before booking.

How much is the travel surcharge?

The approximate guide is $50 per 60 minutes of travel. Examples provided by Island Locks are about $50 for Parksville and $100 for Victoria or Courtenay. These are indicative add-ons, not fixed quotes or included service prices. Ask for the total for your location.

How do I book a consultation?

Use the contact form or email [email protected]. Describe your current hair, the service you are considering, and your preferred timing. Sending a message starts an inquiry; an appointment is only booked once the details are confirmed directly.

How much do dreadlock services cost?

Prices depend on the service and individual assessment. Ask for a quote describing your current hair and goals. Any home-visit travel surcharge is an additional charge discussed before booking. A full service price list has not yet been published.

Can I send photos?

Current photographs can help begin a conversation. You can share them by email when requested. Include clear wider views and a closer image of any concern. Photographs do not replace assessment or guarantee a particular result. The initial website form does not accept file uploads.

Can I wash my locs?

Yes. Ask for washing and drying guidance suited to your formation method, materials, and stage of locs. Use products according to their directions and plan enough time to rinse and dry. Do not adopt a fixed washing schedule from a general guide without considering your own routine.

How often should I have maintenance?

That depends on your locs, your preferred finish, and how your hair behaves between visits. We can discuss the changes to watch for and how to plan appointments. There is no single maintenance interval promised to every client.

Do all loose hairs need to be tucked away?

Your preferred appearance is part of the conversation. Some clients like a defined finish; others want softer roots, loose ends, or natural character. Tell us what you want to preserve as well as what you would like help with.

Can you assess existing locs or repairs?

Ask about your specific concern and share clear photographs if requested. Mention previous repairs or extensions where known. Suitability and the scope of any work are confirmed after assessment; avoid cutting or repeatedly working an unfamiliar area before seeking advice.

Should I buy extension hair before contacting you?

Please discuss requirements first. Materials, length, matching, sourcing, and preparation need an individual conversation. If you already have hair, provide its supplier information when requested so suitability can be discussed before arrangements are finalised.

What if my scalp is persistently sore or irritated?

Seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional about ongoing symptoms or unexplained hair loss. Cosmetic loc services do not diagnose or treat medical conditions. Do not keep a painful hairstyle in place simply because it looks neat.

Let’s talk about your locs.

Nanaimo appointments and home-visit inquiries welcome. Tell us about your hair and your goals; availability and arrangements are confirmed directly.
